Welcome to season two of Morning Minute. I'm your host, Timothy StoneDancer Coleman. This season, we'll be speaking about purpose. How do you find it? How do you rekindle it? And what does it feel like when purpose is in motion? Let's get started. Welcome to finding your purpose.

Season Two Episode Two "Excuses." Whether you're a seasoned workforce veteran or new to the workforce, we hope you will be able to benefit from this topic. Today's great question: What excuses am I using that are preventing me from finding or achieving my purpose? There is a difference between a valid reason and a sad excuse.

We spend so much of our time convincing ourselves that we can't do something, but what if we spent all of that same energy building ourselves up and telling ourselves how strong we are, how worthy we are of love, forgiveness, acceptance, peace, and yes, success? George Washington Carver once said that "99% of the failures come from people who have a habit of making excuses".

The New York Times did a study in 2018, where they found that only 25% of American adults cite having a clear sense of purpose about what makes their lives meaningful. 40% either claim neutrality on the subject or say they don't have a clear sense of purpose.

Now imagine sitting in a room and you are one of 10 people. Based on this study, that would mean that four people would either claim neutrality on this subject or outright say they don't have a clear sense of purpose. Are you one of those people?

This can all start to feel a little overwhelming, so let's keep it simple. Create a vision statement, a purpose or vision statement makes it easier for you to make decisions aligned to your values and helps you stay motivated as you work towards your personal goals.

I can't say it enough; keep a journal, no matter what you choose to do, keep a journal. As you make these amazing discoveries about yourself, use the note feature in your phone, find an app that is like a journal that you can write in every day. The important thing is that it will prevent you from forgetting the small successes. It will remind you to find encouragement from remembering other trials or challenges that you've faced along the way, and that you've overcome.

I'll leave you with this final thought Oprah Winfrey once said, "There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It's why you were born. And how you become most, truly alive.

Thank you for joining me for episode two in our season about Finding Your Purpose. In a world with so many distractions and so many other things that you could be paying attention to. I just want you to know, I appreciate your attention.
